Things to do in Boryeong: Gaehwa Art Park and Cafe Ririss
Things to do in Boryeong: Gaehwa Art Park and Cafe Ririss – hidden in Boryeong are an art park, petting, zoo, botanic garden, and Instagrammable cafe all in the same area.
The Gaehwa Art Park sits just over the mountains from the main part of the city, and you can reach here by bus, car, or taxi.
The buses come by about once an hour, but if you’re in a rush, you can take a taxi from the bus terminal or train station (20-minute ride).
When you first arrive at the art park, the first thing that you’ll notice is a large number of stone sculptures within the park. Stone from the local area is known to be of high quality and is used as materials for tombstones, statues, epitaphs, and a range of other structures.
When riding the bus to the art park, we passed by several workshops where local craftsmen had some of their work on display outside of their shops.
Once I got out of the taxi and paid for the admission, one of the first buildings I saw was the Mosan Art Museum. Throughout the year, they will have different artists in residence who are able to come and work on their art.
The different oseok structures that you’ll find in the part have been created by these various artists, and many of them come from different parts of the world.
The indoor area of the Mosan Art Museum also has various sculptures and artwork on display and you can walk around the area and take in the different exhibits.

Next to the museum is Baduk’s Zoo and Dog Park. The cost for here is separate from the rest of the park, but the 7,000 won gets you a range of treats to give to the animals as you walk around. They have typical petting zoo animals like rabbits, sheep and donkeys.
The ostriches you really have to watch out for, but they have extra long tongs at their pen to allow you to feed them while minimizing getting bit.
If you enjoy getting surrounded by small dogs, you won’t be disappointed. Once the puppies realize that you have doggie treats, you’ll quickly be surrounded.
Overall, if you have kids with you, Baduk’s Zoo can be a fun time, but you can skip it as well if you’re short on time.
What brings many visitors to the Gaehwa Art Park is their local cafe: Cafe Ririss. They have a location out at Daecheon Beach, but their location in the Gaehwa Art Park has many different photo spots both inside the cafe and out.
Both spring and fall are great times to take advantage of the flowers and fall leave depending on when you go. It can get busy on the weekends, so you will want to find a spot quickly and once you get your drinks, you can wander around and take your photos.
If you get hungry, they have two restaurants within the art park. The Herb Restaurant is the main restaurant located next to the cafe, but there was also a noodle shop as well where you can get some noodles and sip on some makgeolli as well.
